Id love to transform the east side fence line but cannot do it without financial support:
Growing food where it seems impossible!
I live in a third floor flat in Brunswick (Inner suburbs of Melbourne Vic, AUS) without even a balcony.
Regardless of the location, Ive made it my mission to reclaim space around the flats and create productive gardens.
While i understand that self sufficiency is going to be unlikely in this urban environment, my aim is that every person living in this block can eat produce grown from our gardens in every meal!
Since starting the gardening project here at Mitchell Mews, I have been astounded by how many people have stopped to chat to me, while Ive been gardening.
I know it sounds corny, but i believe in growing communities by the growing of our primary need – good fresh food!
This project will help me transform a strip of builders rumble on the eastern side of our block, into a productive garden that the residents can harvest from.
The plot I’m hoping to renovate is 11 meters x 1.2 meters
Currently, our garden supply a constant harvest of spring onions and rocket – but id love to be able to grow more food in this urban setting.
Ive included a pic of the most recent plot that i transformed. Its 2/3 ornamental, but ive already harvested and shared radishes and mustard leaves from the productive third.
The garden id like to create is on the other side of the path….

This is the productive end….

here is a pic of the current ‘pick your own’ veg i have left in the foyer

With gardening, nothing is guaranteed- i have i lot of failure to balance any success.
Regardless, i promise to share all produce with the residents of Mitchell Mews.
If you are a contributor, i will do my best to propagate whichever seeds you choose. If i cant get your chosen seeds to grow, ill provide a substitute for you.
